Newsletter April 2017
In this month's newsletter we're featuring the Zellwood Elementary School, one of two schools in Orange County, Florida with a LEED designation. Zellwood uses a thermal energy storage system to store ice created by chillers run at night, when electricity is less expensive, allowing the chillers to run less during the day.
In this video, teachers and students talk about the school's green features. Learn more about how thermal storage helps achieve LEED here.
In other energy storage news, Hawai‘i is breaking new ground on the evolution of the electric grid. Major energy players such as CALMAC were invited to speak at the State Capitol to provide information on energy storage solutions. Click here for a video clip of the information briefing. Hawaii aims to have 100% renewable energy by 2045. Currently, a couple storage bills are pending.
