U.S. Green Building Council Energy Star ARI IceMat Ice Rinks

Case Study

The Rink at Rockefeller Center

The skating rink at Rockefeller Center is open now for the holiday season and will stay open through April. The iconic New York City landmark uses CALMAC's portable IceMat® II. The IceMat II ice rink technology has been designed to keep the outdoor rink operational in excess of 75 degrees.

CALMAC’s IceMat II skating rinks consist of a series of tubing mats that are unrolled over the existing floor.  After the IceMat has been positioned, water is sprayed on the rink until it completely covers the tubing with ice. The mat provides a thin, hard ice sheet that is perfect for skating, while minimizing energy consumption.

“For more than thirty years, we’ve made an art out of making high performance custom ice rinks,” said Mark MacCracken, CEO of CALMAC. “We couldn’t think of a more exciting ice skating rink to be a part of than the world famous site at Rockefeller Center.”

The Rink at Rockefeller Center is located between 49th and 50th Streets and 5th and Avenue of the Americas.  For more information, please visit Rockefellercenter.com.
